Chequered flag for McAleer

Following a disastrous start to the season which saw Nicole crashing out of the first two races the teenager was glad to see the chequered flag at Donington Park this weekend.
The race was run in two parts due to rain and despite technical gremlins on her machine she pushed hard fighting her way up to cross the line in 21st place.
Nicole is now looking forward to a good result at Thruxton this coming weekend.

Donington race weekend

Hey everyone,

Sorry my blogs been a bit late, had some mishaps of having no internet connection or laptop to use during the weekend but thankfully i have one now. So after two unfortunate rounds of a dns and a dnf but donington changed as i finished 21st. So although we had a few problems with the gearbox and lack of speed in the end it turned up good. I will mention a thank-you to my dad and Gerry for working with me all weekend with suspension. Sadly though i was off pace and no where near my quickest times but i pushed through and with the race being stopped after a horrible first start it gave me the chance to push on again. I must apologize that this blog is quite short due to short memory span i have but Thruxtons blog will be better as i will have internet connection

    Thanks Nicole #26

Thruxton practice

Hey everyone,

Well after some testing at donington a few days after our race it gave us some time to try and fix the technical problems i had with my gearbox. Thankfully after trying everything we finally got it sorted, first practice was awesome as the bike felt ok even though it was slightly rich but i had no gearbox problems and i was doing 1.29’s which was only two seconds off my quickest time i’ve done here and luckily the weather was really good and the forecast gives it to be the same tomorrow. Afternoon session i went a second quicker doing 1.28’s so hopefully tomorrow will be good weather and i will do my quickest times and better.

    Thanks, Nicole #26

Thruxton race

Another positive result at a scorching Thruxton circuit saw Nicole have a great dice with her team mate Ben Barrett to come out in front on the last lap to bring it home in 26th place.
After eventually sorting the technical issues that had blighted her weekend at Donington Park and threatened to do the same this weekend a delighted Nicole managed to set 1:26.3 during the race at the Hampshire circuit .
The series moves on to Snetterton on June 19th so here's hoping for more of the same weather and some great racing.

Knockhill race weekend

New helmet and more improvement for McAleer
Nicole McAleer unveiled a new helmet design at Knockhill on Sunday, for one of her favourite rounds of the British Superbike Championship calendar. The Omagh teenager who drew the initial design was delighted with the final results produced by Ainslie Gordon of airforcedfx.co.uk and wore the new design for race day.
McAleer has been gaining in confidence every time she throws her leg over the little Megabikes.ie/Splash in the Pan racing Honda. Improving on her times every session over the three days Nicole was happy when she produced her best qualifying this season and even more delighted to claim her best Academy Cup finish this season with seventh place.
She was pushed throughout the race by her team mate and regular sparring partner on the track Ben Barrett, who at the chequered flag she was able to out run coming out of the final corner to claim 21st place overall. She said afterwards; “that was a good race, although the bike is still a bit down on power and at one point I thought Ii might have to pull out of the race, but the problem cleared and I was able to continue.”
With her confidence every increasing with each race she now looks forward to moving back down south of the border to Mallory Park in a fortnight’s time.

Nicole's Knockhill blog

Hey everyone,
Well it seems my luck is starting to change as my whole weekend seemed to go pretty well. Practice i was running 19th doing 58’s and then it rained before our second practice so i finished 16th. Qualifying was dry and i was happy with suspension and the bike was sharp in itself so i just tried to push myself and did a 57.7 and later on i ended up doing a 56.9 during the second qualifying and i was running by myself during the whole session but i knew if i tried i could bring my times down, i ended up qualifying 22nd on row six which has been my best so far this year. Race day was here and thankfully the sun was shining, my start was ok and i could see a few people i needed to get past before they broke away so after everyone calmed down and i ended up in a battle with my team mate ben barrett again who passed me on the last corner of the last lap thankfully i nipped him just before the line doing a time of 56.1 finishing 21st and 7th in the cup which has been my best finish in the championship.

I would like to thank Boyd for doing a great job on my pit board all weekend, and Ainsley for having my new helmet design ready to be used on race day. Lets look foward to Mallory

Nicole's Mallory weekend

Hey everyone,
hope you all enjoyed watching the racing the weekend. Practice day started off pretty good and i was doing 1.04’s and the bike was feeling great, although the last bit of our practice ended due to a rain shower that carried out the rest of the night. Qualifying came and it was pretty windy at times, i was sitting in 23rd most of the time doing 1.03’s with my team mate Ben infront of me by one place. In second qualifying i did a 1.03 dead and it left me 25th starting on the 7th row so i knew i had some work to do but i knew if i got a good start and pushed through i would be ok. Race day came and the weather seemed to be holding back, it tried to spit a few times but it stayed dry for our race where i finished 18th battling for 17th with Ross Walker most of the way. I did a time of a 1.02.8 which was .1 off my time from back in 2006 so in the end i was happy with my progress during the weekend and having my best result to date this year. Lets hope to it getting even better.

I want to thank my mum, dad, boyd and angie for all the help during the weekend and ensuring a good result at the end of it. Bring on Brands and if anyone would be interested in helping me continue my year in racing and sponsoring me, then please contact me, Thanks

Brands Hatch gp weekend

Nicole McAleer who had a torrid start to the 2009 season is gradually gaining her old confidence and this was noticeable on Sunday at Brands Hatch when the teenager from Omagh who is about to embark on her second year of her College studies in September got a good start to the 14 laps race which was held over the full Brands Hatch GP circuit.
McAleer who had been improving on her timings with each session was off to a lightening start but was boxed in slightly and this held her up somewhat on the opening laps as she was riding steady to get heat into her Dunlop tyres on the Splash in the Pan Honda. But after a couple of laps she was soon moving up the field and was more than delighted to break into the top 20 during the final laps.
At the chequered flag she was credited with 20th place and she had the satisfaction of knowing that she was closing down on 19th place Sam Hornsey. Not only was she in the top 20, but she was also eighth in the Academy Cup, this latest run of consistent points has elevated her back into the top ten with 45 points, only seven points to close the gap to ninth place.
McAleer’s next race on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August at Cadwell Park, a track which McAleer likes.
Don't forget there's still time to bid to join Nicole on the grid at one of the remaining 4 rounds.

Cadwell Park race weekend

Teenager finds her pace
Omagh teenager Nicole McAleer found her pace at Cadwell Park, with each session throughout the weekend she was getting faster and when it really counted in the race she set her quickest ever lap around the Lincolnshire track with a 1.37.781.
Her rhythm was disturbed when the race was initially red-flagged after four laps when Rendell fell heavily at Barn, but on the restart of eight laps she made a lightening quick start but was bulked and pushed wide during the opening lap. However she was soon back on the pace and had her head down and reeling in the rest of the field.
By the end of the eight lap dash she was disappointed not to have another lap as she was clearly catching 15th place and one point, but she was more than delighted to take her best finish this season in 16th place overall and sixth place in the Academy Cup.
McAleer’s next outing is in two weeks time at Croft, when the Superbike Championship moves back up North to Yorkshire and she is hoping to make more gains in the Cup Championship, where she is currently lying in tenth place.

Croft Race Weekend

Hi everyone,

Hope you all enjoyed watching the racing this weekend. Well from the word go it seemed like my race result was going to be very interesting, i was running top ten during practice finishing up in the top twenty and my times were 1.31’s which was around my quickest time of a 1.31.6 which was back from 2007. Second practice we made some changes and although i went quicker we went the wrong way and had to quickly change back after the session. Qualifying came on saturday and the sun was shinning, i was running around 17th during the session doing low 1.30’s which was a imrovement from practice, second qualifying i did a time of a 1.30.4 leaving me 21st on the grid so already i had improved alot and i was so happy with the way the bike was performing i knew results were on the way. Sunday morning arrived and the weather didnt look to good it tried to rain a few times, and i crashed in warm up due to a crash in the last corner and i had no where else to go so the bike was soon fixed up and ready for the race. I got a good enough start and was 21st on the first lap, i worked my way taking four one lap and two or one every lap making my way up to 13th with ross walker close on my tail so i pushed hard forgetting that it was cold and the track temperature was very low leaving little grip and then i crashed on the fastest part of the circuit, about 120mph i lost the front and kept going til i hit the safeguard barrier and went underneath it, thankfully the marshals soon got it lifted off me and i stood up. I had to be taken to the medical for a suspected broken arm, thankfully the x-ray came up clear and i am just very badly buised, swollen and sore. During the race i did a time of a 1.29.0 which was 2.6 seconds quicker than my previous time from 2007 so although i lost out on my best result to date in a very long time, i know that the last two rounds are going to be very interesting and i am on the mend for silverstone.

I want to thank my family for ensuring everything went to plan this weekend, my sponsors for making it possible for me to race and the medical team for taking good care of me. Also the cj fund for supply the safety barriers, without them i would of been alot worse. lets look foward to silverstone

Silverstone International

Top five Academy Cup for McAleer at Silverstone
Omagh college girl Nicole McAleer was back on top form at Silverstone on Sunday with one of her best finishes this season. Despite a crash at the previous round at Croft McAleer was on form right from the start in the opening free practice session. The teenager went on to improve her times with every outing and was on the seventh row of the grid for the race.
McAleer got off to a good start on board her Splash in the Pan Honda for the 14 lap Relentless British 125GP race, although she was held up slightly when she became embroiled in a battle with her team mate Ben Barrett. The two continued to dice for placings throughout the race and unfortunately coming out of the final corner Barrett just piped McAleer for 16th place.
McAleer was more than delighted when she crossed the line in fifth place in the Academy Cup race, behind winner Taylor Mackenzie. This was the teenagers highest place finish in the Cup this season and now sets her up nicely for the final round which will be held at Oulton Park on Sunday 11th October, a track were they have already had a race this season so she goes into the final round with some knowledge of a good race set up.

Thruxton

Thruxton drama for McAleer
It was to be a weekend full of drama's not just for Nicole McAleer but for the whole Splash Racing team. The trouble began for the 18 year old when the teams early morning flight from Belfast was cancelled due to the volcanic ash, this necessitated a drive from Belfast to Dublin, where they were unable to catch the afternoon sailing as it was fully booked so they waited around until the evening before they got across to the mainland, then after a drive from Liverpool to East Midlands to pick up their camper van, before driving down to Thruxton, albeit about 24 hours later than planned.
Due to the volcanic ash distribution at the airports, unfortunately Nicole's mechanic Gerry Brennan was unable to make it over, so with a depleted team of just Nicole and her mum and dad, the three did their
best to get on the grid, unfortunately an oil leak forced her into the Shoot Out race, but unfortunately she failed to make it into the final ten qualifying places, but despite the bitter disappointment of not making it into the race she did have the satisfaction of coming away from the track with an ever improving timings.
The drama didn't stop at the track for Nicole and her family as they had a further mishap on the way back up the motorway to East Midlands, when they suffered a blow out on their motor home, thankfully Nicole's father who was driving at the time was able to pull up the vehicle without any damage. The entire Splash Racing team are now just glad to be putting Thruxton behind them and are now looking forward to the next race meeting at Oulton Park on Bank Holiday Monday, where she is hoping to get her Championship back on track again and be able to replicate her excellent qualifying pace at Brands Hatch during the opening round of the season.

Oulton 2010

Oulton Park learning curve for McAleer
After a difficult weekend at Thruxton a few weeks ago, Omagh's Nicole McAleer was hoping to have a better race weekend at Oulton Park over the Bank Holiday, however it was not too be. McAleer had gearbox trouble during qualifying. Once the gearbox was sorted the Splash Racing team had more drama during the morning warm up session when the Triumph failed to rev above 8000 rpm, but she was able to put it all behind her during the final chance to qualifying in the "Shoot Out" race.

She was soon off the grid and working her way through the traffic, having qualified at the back of the grid and had managed to work her way up to 20th place when the safey car was deployed, she used this to her advantage and once the safety car pulled off she was off moving up to 19th place. At the end of the eight lap dash she was in 17th place, not far enough up to secure a place on the grid for the main race, but she was more than delighted to have taken more than two seconds off her times from the start of the weekend, when she started out with 1.47.727 as he best time in the opening free practice session, before getting her timings down to 1.45.407 during the "Shoot Out" race.

Although disappointed not to have made it into the main race, she is encouraged that she is improving each session and is starting to get more comfortable on the new bigger machinery, she will now move to Cadwell Park in just under three weeks time for the fourth round of the Championship on Sunday 23rd May 2010.

Cadwell 2010

First class qualifying for McAleer
Less than two weeks after a massive highside during a testing session at Cadwell Park, looked like it might put the Omagh College student Nicole McAleer on the sidelines, she was back on track and in action in the National Metzeler Superstock 600 Championship at Cadwell Park. The eighteen year was participating in a test session in order to get in some extra track time and help set up the Triumph when she suffered a massive highside which cause the tank of the triumph to smash and badly bruise her leg, but determined not to let the accident pull her down, she bounced back this weekend for the fourth round of the Championship.
As always with each session on the track she gained in both confidence and speed and the final session on track on Saturday evening was no different. She was 19th on the grid for the "shoot out" race but was soon on the move, eventually taking 17th place at the chequered flag. Disappointed not to make it into the actual race on Sunday, she now goes into the few weeks break safe in the knowledge that she is getting faster every round and is now heading to one of her favourite tracks for the next round in July, and that is Knockhill where she had a number of excellent results in the 125GP championship.
The Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship riders will be sitting out the MCE Insurance British Superbike round at Mallory Park on 27th June 2010 as there is not enough room in the cramped paddock at Mallory for the Superstock riders, but they will not lose out as they will have a double header at a later round.
If you missed out on the action during today's racing you can catch the Support race highlights on Eurosport UK at 11pm on Thursday 27th May. And if you can make it to Knockhill on 4th July you will see McAleer in action.

Brands Hatch GP 2010

Brands Hatch disappointment for Omagh's McAleer
It was disappointment for Omagh's Nicole McAleer at Brands Hatch on Sunday during the latest round of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship, which was held over the full International Brands Hatch circuit. Despite qualifying well up the grid in 26th place, having been up as far as fifth place during the wet final qualifying session, her luck was to run out in the race.
After a less than lightening start, which saw the 18 year old from County Tyrone dropping back to 37th place on the opening lap, the determined and gritty young lady was soon cutting back through the pack and was up to 28th by lap 9 of the 12 lap race. However she was not able to improve any further after sliding off her vibrantly coloured Splash Racing Triumph Daytona 675, landing in the gravel trap at Druids, having crashed out when she hit a patch of fluid on the track, which also claimed another rider in the form of Craig Neve who until that point had been in a dice with McAleer at the time of the incident.
McAleer did have one consolation in that the race only lasted another two laps as it had to be red-flagged when Ben Padgett also crashed on the fluid at Druids which took out McAleer. She is now hoping for better luck at the next round, Cadwell Park on August 30th, which is the traditional Bank Holiday party weekend for the Lincolnshire track which has already hosted a round of the MCE British Superbike Championship earlier this season, in May when McAleer took 17th place in the "Shoot Out" race, having regained her early season confidence and got the Triumph running how she wants, she is out to prove that she can run top 15 in this one of the most extremely competitive Championships within the British Superbike Championship.
Anyone who is interested in helping to sponsor McAleer, should contact Irene via her email address paul@mcaleer1877.fsnet.co.uk or via the PayPal link on her web site www.nicolemcaleer.com

Cadwell Aug 2010

Concussion rules McAleer out of Cadwell
Omagh's Nicole McAleer will be missing from the grid during Bank Holiday Monday's "Party in the Park" round of the MCE British Superbike Championship, where the 18-year-old should have lined up for the Metzeler National Superstock 600 race. McAleer who had been putting in some excellent and consistently fast times during free practice on Friday, setting a lap of 1:37.393, which placed her in 12th place in Group A. However she was later ruled out of the meeting when she suffered a massive high side at the notorious Barn Corner section of the Lincolnshire track during the first qualifying session.
The majority of the 2.1870 mile Cadwell Park track was dry but a small section under the trees at the Barn section was still damp and when she put the power down exiting the corner she was high sided of her Splash Racing / Megabikes.i.e. Triumph Daytona. After being assessed at the track by the excellent MSVR Medical Staff she was taken by air ambulance to Lincoln County Hospital where she was treated for concussion and was kept in overnight for observations before being released on Sunday morning with a very bad headache and still suffering with the after effects of the concussion.
Nicole remarked after the accident that it was down to the high quality of her equipment, including her Daytona Boots and Shoei helmet which helped to prevent her from sustaining more serious injuries. She is now hoping to be classified as race fit for the next round of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship in just under two weeks time at Croft, Northallerton.
