McAleer in the points in debut race for SP125 Racing
Omagh teenager Nicole McAleer bagged a handful of points in the ACU Academy Cup race which was run concurrently with the opening round of the Relentless 125GP Championship at Thruxton, despite having a difficult qualifying the young lady managed to make it to tenth place in the Cup in her first race for the SP125 Racing team.
McAleer started the weekend on a good note breaking into the top twenty during the first free practice but the things started to go downhill during Friday’s second session when the first of the tyre problems struck. During the first qualifying session she was 33rd in the wet, but then again the tyre gremlins struck again in the second and final qualifying session, dropping her to 34th on the grid, although on each outing she was able to get her times down and during the final session was able to get down to a 1:37.132.
Despite the tough luck she suffered during qualifying McAleer remained upbeat and was more than delighted to finish 22nd overall in the race and tenth in the Cup. She is now looking forward to Oulton Park in two weeks time and is hoping to have better luck in qualifying and to add to her points tally.
