Weekend to forget for McAleer
It was a weekend to forget for Omagh’s Nicole McAleer at Croft for the British 125GP class. The teenager had been offered the opportunity to ride a power valve 125 for the weekend and was more than delighted to accept the offer, but unfortunately on Friday she had virtually no track time when the water pump went on the power valve and she had to revert back to her own machinery.
But it was Saturday morning before she was able to get a full session on her own bike, by which stage she was already playing catch up with the other riders and with the condition of the Croft track have deteriorated quite a bit since last season McAleer was struggling, especially in parts of the circuit which had become extremely bumpy.
Despite trying her best she just could not get the best out of her 125 Honda and was last place on the grid in qualifying, as she said herself though “the only place would be up in tomorrow’s race”. But luck deserted her completely on Sunday when she only managed two laps before an electrical fault forced her out of the race. She is not putting the disastrous weekend behind her and looking forward to the penultimate round at Silverstone in two weeks time.
